Spin your way past writer’s block
A blank page is the hardest part of writing. Spin the wheel for a story starter, set a timer, and write. It’s a simple routine that works for classrooms, writing clubs, journaling and anyone who wants to practise creative writing.
How to run a writing session
- Spin for a prompt and read it aloud.
- Plan for two minutes: who is in the story, where it happens, and what goes wrong.
- Write for 10–20 minutes without stopping to edit.
- Share: volunteers read their opening paragraph aloud.
Build a story generator
Create three separate wheels and spin each one:
- Character: a pirate, a shy dragon, a time-travelling grandma, a lost astronaut
- Setting: an abandoned theme park, a city underwater, a school on the Moon
- Problem: the treasure is cursed, nobody can stop laughing, the map is wrong
Save each under My wheels and open them one after another.
Journal prompts for older students and adults
- Write about a time you changed your mind about something important.
- Describe your perfect day from morning to night.
- What advice would you give your younger self?
Add these to the entries box to create a reflective journaling wheel.
