What is Spin the Wheel?
Spin the Wheel is a free online random picker. You add a list of names, numbers or ideas, spin the wheel, and it lands on one of them at random. It's the quickest way to make a fair choice when you can't decide, or when everyone needs to see that the result wasn't rigged.
Teachers use it as a classroom name picker, creators use it to choose giveaway winners live, friends use it to settle where to eat, and teams use it to decide who goes first. Whatever you're choosing, the wheel makes it quick, visible and fun.
How the random picker stays fair
Many wheel spinners rely on Math.random(), which is fine for games but isn't designed to be unpredictable. SpinWheelHero picks every winner with crypto.getRandomValues(), the same secure random source browsers use for encryption, and it removes the small bias that appears when random numbers are mapped onto a list of entries.
The winner is chosen the moment you spin. The animation then turns the wheel so it lands on that slice, stopping at a random point inside it. Every entry is the same size, so every entry has exactly the same chance: with 10 entries, each one has a 1 in 10 chance on every spin, no matter what happened before.
Tips for classrooms, giveaways and live streams
- Pick without repeats: turn on "Remove winner automatically" in Settings to work through a whole class list.
- Keep a record: the Results tab logs every spin with the time, and you can export it as a CSV file.
- Go big: use Fullscreen to show the wheel on a projector, smartboard or stream.
- Reuse your lists: save a wheel for each class or event under "My wheels".
- Build suspense: set a longer spin duration (up to 20 seconds) for big announcements.
