Brain Break Wheel

Quick 1–3 minute movement and mindfulness breaks to re-energise the class.

Click the wheel or press Space to spin

Tip: paste a column straight from Excel or Google Sheets.

Reset the room in two minutes

Attention drops after long stretches of sitting still. A quick brain break gets students moving, breathing and laughing, so they come back ready to learn. Let a student spin the wheel and the whole class does the activity together.

What’s on the wheel

The wheel mixes energising and calming activities:

  • Get moving: jumping jacks, freeze dance, run on the spot, hop on one foot, animal walks
  • Play together: Simon Says, Mirror Me, Silent Ball
  • Calm down: deep breathing, stretch to the sky, the 5-4-3-2-1 senses exercise

How to use it in class

  1. Show the wheel on your board, or in Fullscreen for a big display.
  2. Choose a student to click the wheel or press Space.
  3. Set a timer for one to three minutes and do the activity together.
  4. Finish with a calm transition, like three deep breaths, before returning to work.

Make your own versions

  • Calm-down wheel for after lunch or before tests
  • High-energy wheel for Friday afternoons
  • Outdoor wheel with relay races, tag and hopscotch
  • Learning breaks like “spell your name with your body” or “count by fives while marching”

Save each version under My wheels to switch between them quickly.

Brain Break Wheel: frequently asked questions

What is a brain break?

A brain break is a short activity, usually one to three minutes long, that gives students a pause from focused learning. Movement and breathing breaks help students refocus afterwards.

When should I use the brain break wheel?

Good moments are between subjects, after a long period of sitting, before a test, or whenever energy in the room drops or gets too high.

Can I add calming activities only?

Yes. Replace the entries with calming ideas such as deep breathing, stretching, colouring or a short guided meditation, and save it as a separate wheel.

How long should each brain break last?

Most brain breaks work best at one to three minutes, long enough to reset attention but short enough to get straight back to learning.
